The rough cut of your talking head, done while you get coffee.

Select the clips, press Auto Edit. It cuts the silence, transcribes on your PC, finds the sentences you said twice, the "uh"s and the words you would rather not publish, then shows you everything colour-coded before a single cut is made.

Free to download. Tested on Premiere Pro 2026; 2025 and 2024 work too. The basics stay free forever, Pro unlocks every tool, cancel any time.

What one run does

Six steps, one button.

1 · Cut silence

Finds the pauses in the audio and ripple-deletes them. Threshold, minimum length and padding are yours to set.

2 · Transcribe

Transcription runs on your own PC. Free, offline, 90+ languages, word timings included. Nothing is uploaded.

3 · Clean takes

Sentences you said twice within a few seconds: the last take stays, the earlier ones go.

4 · Filler words

Uh, um, hmm, like, you know. The list is yours; add the ones you say.

5 · Profanity

Mute, beep or cut the words on your banned list.

6 · Smooth audio

A short constant-power crossfade on every audio cut, so the edit never clicks.

Podcast mode

Two cameras, two mics, one button.

Drop every camera on its own video track and every guest on their own microphone track. Podcast mode does the rest, in order, on your PC.

1 · Sync cameras

Lines every camera up with the microphones by sound, to the frame. No clapper needed.

2 · Cut silence

Every pause goes, on every track at once, with the same settings as Cut Silence.

3 · Cut to whoever talks

The loudest microphone picks the camera. Minimum shot length and a switch margin keep it calm. Nobody talking: the wide shot.

4 · Punch zoom

A subtle push-in on the loud moments, keyframed on the cut, so the edit has movement.

5 · Captions

Transcribes the finished cut locally and adds a caption track you style in Essential Graphics.

6 · Vertical version

On top of the finished edit, a 9:16 copy as a new sequence, reframed with Premiere's Auto Reframe, ready for Shorts and Reels. The original stays as it is.

How it works

Three steps. Nothing to learn.

Every step also exists as its own tool: Word Captions, Take Cleaner, Filler Words, Profanity Filter, Cut Silence, plus Speaker Switch for podcasts, Punch Zoom, Beat Markers and the Reframe Pack.

1

Select the clips on your timeline (or the whole sequence) and press Auto Edit. Simple mode is one button; Advanced opens each step with its full settings.

2

Review the colour-coded transcript with the waveform under it. Toggle words, multi-select with drag or shift-click, uncheck whole categories.

3

Apply. The panel makes the cuts, closes the gaps, adds the crossfades and keeps the transcript in sync for the next run.

Questions

Frequently asked

Is Auto Edit free?

Auto Edit and the other assistants are part of Pro: $19 a month or $149 a year. The free panel includes the 3D Carousel, the transitions, the timeline sidebar and stock search.

Does my footage leave my computer?

No. Transcription runs locally on your PC, and the cutting is done by Premiere itself. There is no upload and no per-minute credit.

Which languages?

Transcription covers 90+ languages. Take and filler detection work on any of them; the filler list is editable so you can add the ones in your language.

Can I undo it?

Yes, it is a normal Premiere edit. Ctrl+Z steps back through it, and the review screen lets you keep anything before it is applied.

Multicam podcasts?

Yes. Podcast mode under Auto Edit syncs the cameras to the microphones by sound, cuts the silence, cuts to whoever is talking, adds punch zooms and captions, and makes a vertical version. Each step is also its own tool: Speaker Switch, Punch Zoom, Word Captions, Reframe Pack.
